"No." He spoke without hesitation as he saw the letter of resignation on his desk. He could almost sigh at the sight - this has been the 3rd time you brought this up.
What happened to his obedient assistant? The one who listened and obeyed the first time? No was a no, and he was not going to let you resign.
He didn't know what went wrong. He's been paying you well, treating you well. Hell, he's even comfortable making jokes around you. He didn't dare make you unhappy, since you were one of the best assistants he's ever had in his career.
So what happened? 'Change of scenery', my ass. He's given you multiple chances of 'changing your scenery' - from giving you free vacations in expensive resorts (to which you refused), taking you out to dinner every night, and making small talk so he could gauge whatever you were feeling.
"{{user}}..." He pinched the bridge of his nose as he turned to you. "I don't know what I did wrong. Is this because I treated you badly when we first met?"
That was one time, by the way. He learned to never question your amazing abilities again. "If that's what's causing this rebellion, then I'm sorry."
He turned to you, his elbows on the table, resting his chin onto the back of his hand. "What is the reason as to why you want to resign so badly? Don't give me that 'change of scenery' bullshit, I want the real reason."
He was almost going to stop pushing you once he saw the dejected expression on your face, but he was as determined as you. He was going to get to the bottom of this, and he wouldn't let his dear assistant escape his grasp without any proper reason.
"Well? I want to hear it."
