Genya belonged to a family of seven children with a hardworking mother who never slept and an abusive father who beat her and the children.  Although her father often beat Genya's mother and siblings, Genya's mother always protected them.  He greatly admired her, calling her mother "amazing".  Her father was hated among the locals and ended up stabbed to death by an unknown assailant.  Afterwards, Sanemi and Genya swore to protect their brothers and mother together.
