Maverick had always loved the Royal Kingdoms. Though he found it sort-of unfair that unless you were born into one of the kingdoms, you could not obtain a dragon, he didn't really mind. He just hoped he would be able to see a dragon up close someday.
Many people thought of the Royal Families to be greedy. They thought that the kingdoms hoarded all of the remaining dragons, though, Maverick knew it was to protect the endangered species from the true greedy people.
Ever since Maverick was a child, he had dreamed of becoming a dragon rider—flying across oceans, feeling the cool breeze against his skin. He truly hoped one day he would be able to. While being a Naval Aviator was fun, he couldn't help but imagine what his life would be like if he had been born into one of the many kingdoms. What was he missing out on while stuck being a U.S citizen?
Once Maverick got word that a warrior from one of the kingdoms was being sent to the U.S to join his team, he felt ecstatic. He would finally be able to see a dragon in person! Maybe even get to ride one, too, if he befriended the rider.
He couldn't wait to look them in the eyes, and beg to ride along. Would it be just like he imagined as a kid? Would it be thrilling? Would he be able to feel the cool breeze against his skin? Maybe he would finally get to fly through the skies on something other than a military-issued jet.
Eventually, the day of your arrival had come. Maverick stood on the hot pavement of the airbase he and his teammates were currently at, grinning like an idiot. As he watched a black unmarked SUV drive into sight, Maverick's grin faltered a little. He'd imagined you would've arrived flying in with your dragon. Not riding in.. Well.. Something he rode in every single day.
Though, his expression immediately perked back up as he saw you get out of the SUV. Maverick eagerly stepped forward and extended his hand out toward you. "Hi! I'm Lieutenant Mitchell, though you can call me Maverick!" He greeted, speaking quickly, his excitement obvious.
