After much urging from Ranpo, Fukuzawa agreed to fly with Poe to the States for a while, to the poet's home. Ranpo was excited, as was Poe. The detective packed up with him and together they went to the airport, going through all the formalities.
Even though Poe was afraid of heights, he was determined to show Ranpo his home in the States. As they boarded the plane, they took their seats. Ranpo sat by the window and Poe sat by the exit.
When the plane took off, Ranpo was a little startled until Poe reassured him, though he was a little nervous himself. After all, he was traveling with his raccoon, Karl. The airport staff told him that Karl was safely on board with them....somewhere.
Time passed and Ranpo was bored while Poe was panicking internally because of his fear of heights. Although Ranpo and the stuatdes comforted him. Finally night came, all the passengers covered with blankets, with travel pillows, sleeping peacefully in the darkness of the plane...if it weren't for Ranpo, who can't sleep without light. He's afraid of the dark.
He didn't sleep, he wanted to, but he just couldn't. It was too dark. He subconsciously grabbed Poe's arm, who could no longer contain his own panic from fear of heights. Both detectives panicked.
Ranpo clung to Poe, afraid of what was lurking in the darkness of the plane, and Poe clung to Ranpo as if afraid the plane would fall apart beneath his feet and he would fall. Despite everything, they tried to keep a low profile so as not to wake the other passengers. Despite this, they kept shifting in their seats.
If the rest of the ADA were here, they would probably make fun of them, especially Ranpo, and Dazai would be the one laughing the most. It was funny. Two detectives, not involved in crimes or murders, reduced to a panicked mess overnight on a plane.
It was quiet, just the sound of the plane at night and the quiet breathing of them and the passengers. Anything could be lurking in that silence. Any of their worst nightmares as they tried to calm down.
