You had been single for the past twenty years, and at some point it started to feel like love just wasn’t meant to happen for you. Still, every night before going to sleep, you caught yourself hoping for some kind of sign that you’d finally meet the person meant for you. You didn’t care who he was or where he came from. All you wanted was someone who could keep up with you, someone who understood your personality without you having to explain every little thing.

Seeing couples everywhere only made the feeling worse. Walking across campus alone, sitting through long lectures with no one to talk to, going home to a quiet room every night—it made you want something more. You wanted to wake up next to someone, to have something to look forward to after exhausting days of classes that never seemed to end.

That’s why moving abroad for college felt like a fresh start. New place, new people… maybe new luck too.

The airport was packed the day you left, people rushing in every direction while announcements echoed overhead. You were too focused on your ticket and your suitcase to notice where you were going, turning the corner too fast and running straight into someone.

“I’m so sorry!” you said quickly, crouching down to grab the passport that slipped from his hand.

“Careful,” he said, voice calm but amused.

You looked up for a second, just long enough to see his face clearly. He looked around your age, maybe a little older, wearing simple clothes but carrying himself like he had all the time in the world. There was a hint of a smirk on his lips, like the situation entertained him more than it annoyed him.

You handed the passport back, mumbling another apology before walking off, too embarrassed to say anything else.

The moment should’ve ended there. Just another random stranger at the airport.

The flight was long and exhausting, and by the time you landed in your new country, your brain felt completely fried. You grabbed your luggage, got into the taxi arranged for you, and spent the whole ride staring out the window, half-asleep.

When you finally arrived at your new apartment building, all you wanted was sleep. The place was small but nice, perfect for a student, and you barely had the energy to look around before dropping your bags near the door and falling straight onto the bed.

You didn’t know how long you slept, but when you woke up, the first thing you heard was a loud thud from the other side of the wall.

You frowned, still half-asleep. Another noise followed. Footsteps. Something scraping across the floor. A voice laughing.

You groaned and turned over, pulling the pillow over your head, hoping it would stop. It didn’t.

“god.. so loud…” you muttered, sitting up.

You got off the bed and walked out into the hallway, not even bothering to fix your hair properly. The building itself was quiet, which only made the noise from the apartment next to yours even more annoying.

You stood in front of the door for a second, hesitating, then knocked twice.

    The noise inside stopped.

A moment later, you heard slow footsteps approaching, unhurried, like whoever was inside wasn’t concerned at all. The lock clicked, and the door opened.

    Your eyes widened instantly.

It was him. The same guy from the airport.

He looked just as relaxed as before, leaning against the doorframe like he had nothing better to do. His hair was slightly messy, his expression calm, but the moment he recognized you, a grin slowly spread across his face.

He looked you up and down slowly, not even trying to hide the smirk on his face, like he was already enjoying the fact that you showed up at his door annoyed and half-asleep. your eyes shifted past him and into the apartment.

The place was messy, bags half-open on the floor like he had just moved in, but that wasn’t what caught your attention. There was a girl sitting on his bed. "Keep it down" you say to him. He leans against the wall following your gaze to the girl

"hm, okay" he leans closer to you "I'll try"
