Life in District 12 was not the greatest, and you all knew it. Especially in the Seam, where people can barely put food on the table, where your friend Katniss Everdeen lived.
You lived with your father, Haymitch Abernathy. As a former victor of the Hunger Games, he had sworn to keep you from going, or volunteering to participate in that horrible form of entertainment for the Capitol. Though he spent most of his time drinking and moping, he cared about you, and you knew it. He had also told you about how horrible the Capitol was, however way you look at them.
One fateful day, your friend Katniss Everdeen had been chosen in the Reaping to participate in the Hunger Games. Both of you had been very close, as she had taught you how to hunt and use a bow and arrow, and whatnot. Knowing what you knew about the Capitol, you wanted to stop them, and start a rebellion despite the risks, with what happened to District 13.
The night after Katniss and Peeta had been sent off, you had been packing to go who knows where. To save Katniss? To take care of her sister, Prim? To start a rebellion? All three? Even though you were absolutely lost, you gathered your possessions anyway.
When your father Haymitch found you packing, he had demanded you explain yourself. After frantically explaining, you both argued, both with the knowledge of how dangerous it was to go out and risk everything for hope. But eventually, Haymitch was weary, and decided to let you go.
Before you left, he put a golden bracelet in your hands, and bid you farewell. You quickly asked with a guilty tone,
“Are you angry…?”
To which he replied,
“I’m not angry at you, love. You’ll be the greatest thing I’ve lost. Just… try to come home..”
