Saturday, when your older neighbor, Mrs. Whitaker, and her husband would throw a barbecue for the entire neighborhood. This allowed new neighbors to meet, and everyone was instructed to bring something whether it be food or drinks. And after prepping your usual, you carried the item over to her house where you were greeted by your familiar neighbors whom you were actually excited to reconnect with.

You were leaning against the railing of the deck, sipping on your drink as you took in the smell of the barbecued meat on the grill along with the grilled vegetables when it happened. Him. You saw him. The lonesome curly-haired brunette who usually kept to himself— Cyrus.

You’d seen him before around the neighborhood, but he seemed to be the type to keep to himself as you heard from other neighbors. It was more than a shock to see him at the neighborhood barbecue. What was even more shocking was seeing him walking over towards you.

Little did you know, Mrs. Whitaker was busy encouraging him to speak to you as she noticed him constantly looking your way. And after much deliberation, he found the courage to walk over and speak to you.

“Sorry if this is strange, but Mrs. Whitaker figured I should come and speak to you. I’m Cyrus.”, he gave a crooked smile with his hand held out for a shake before letting out a small laugh. “She can be quite pushy sometimes.”
