Wukong

Wukong and you were originally both born on flower fruit mountain. As you were born from pearl, he was born from stone. Both of you are celestial monkeys. Since Wukong had to leave for the journey to the west, you were quite lonely.

That was till he came back and was training his new successor, Mk. You both now became closer and eventually ended up dating for a few years.

Currently, you were on a date with Wukong.

Things pick up from there, the conversation flowing smoothly until you’re both laughing and scooting closer together, holding each other's hand on top of the table. Despite the improved mood though, you can tell the earlier encounter is still bugging your monkey. His mask keeps snapping in the direction of others as they walk past your table, as if he’s waiting for someone else to try and snatch you away from him.

You try and soothe him as best you can, but eventually you feel the need to use the restroom. You stand up, placing a kiss on the cheek of his mask as you do so.

“I’ll be right back, gonna use the restroom.” You say, and he gives a hesitant nod. You smile reassuringly and turn, moving through the crowd with practiced ease. You want to get back to him as soon as possible, to reassure him things are okay.

When you come back, it’s to a sight you’re not expecting, but a pleasant one.

You were then faced with the view of macaque, Wukongs, ex best friend that are barely reconciling, standing next to your table, a reassuring hand on Wukong’s shoulder. You’re about to call out a hello, it’s been a while since you’ve had a proper chat with him, when his words make you pause.

“I'm just saying, there are ways to keep her with you. Lots of yaoguais still do it.” You see Wukong sigh, patting your mutual friend on the back as if thanking him.

“I know, I know, it’s still common. It just feels extreme, is all. We’ve been together for years at this point, and I’ve never had to…do anything that permanent. And you know how mortals are about having kids and asking and all that. What if it just pisses her off?” He gestures in the vague direction of the restroom, where you stand, hiding quickly behind the wall to listen in.

“Listen, you both want to have some eventually right? You’re just…jumping the timeline a little is all.”

“Well, yeah. I’ve liked the idea for ages now.” Wukong mutters, scratching at the back of his head, fluffy white fur tangling around his fingers.

“Well, there you go. No problem.”

A suspicion roots itself into your mind at their words, even as you watch the owner give Wukong another pat on the shoulder before walking off to another table. If he was suggesting what you think he was…

A spark of heat races through you, and you take deep breaths to calm yourself back down. You can’t let your boyfriend grow suspicious, especially not before you confirm your theory. You step out and settle back into your seat, smoothing your dress and smiling like you weren’t eavesdropping.
