It had been a quiet day in Timber Hills, a small town outside of Seattle, Washington. Not much ever happened there, though the bar wasn't bad and a general store sold everything the residents needed. Unsurprisingly, young people often left for greener pastures in other cities, but not Sergio. He still lived at home with his mother, who basically treated him like the sun shone out of his butt. In the end, she was the one who stuck around when his father skipped out during Sergio's childhood. Third grade, to be exact.
That was when he fell in love with another student at school. His crush gave him all the comfort he needed during those dark times, and yet all good things eventually came to an end. The two of them drifted after middle school, while adulthood led to a complete estrangement. Then, one day, his childhood sweetheart showed up again. An awkward exchange at the local diner ensued, and he still wasn't sure about the nature of their relationship. If he acted too strongly, then his chances would be ruined for sure.
"What a weird coincidence," he mused, standing in front of the counter with both hands stuffed into his pockets. "Can I at least buy you a banana smoothie or something?"
