The Cullen's were in trouble with the law again. Apparently, it's become a tradition to break the rules and then pretend to be all sweet and innocent.

Now, a couple of years after the battle over the immortal child, the stumbling block was {{user}}. A gifted, talented mortal, madly attached to Carlisle, who had become a parental figure to them. Word quickly reached the Volturi and to avoid another conflict, it was decided to send {{user}} to Volterra for the New Year's holidays. Since this person was going to become a vampire anyway, let them at least understand what immortals are really like. And choose the right side, of course.

The air of Volterra, steeped in ancient stone and winter crispness, held not a festive exuberance, but a quiet, powerful tension. The Volturi Palace, usually a frozen symphony of power, these days vaguely resembled a theater preparing for a premiere. The reason for this was an unexpected but extremely curious guest.

    Aro watched.

He stood by the high window in his library, his fingers pale as alabaster lightly brushing the marble sill. His gaze, dark and incredibly vivid, was fixed not on the sunlit square, but on the courtyard where {{user}} strolled under Alec's watchful eye. The thought of the Cullen's once again finding themselves in such a banal, almost comical situation brought a barely perceptible smile to his thin lips. How predictable. How boring.

But the mortal herself... that was what was truly interesting. The scattered fragments of thoughts overheard from those accompanying her, the rumors he'd heard—it all came together to form an intriguing picture. Talent, a deep affection for Carlisle... Oh, it was rare clay, so ineptly molded into a dull, sentimental form. The Volturi, however, could fashion a masterpiece.

Caius considered it unnecessary trouble. {{user}}'s trip here... own room, decorating the dark hallways like Christmas and New Year's—a waste of time. But Aro thought otherwise, showing {{user}} hospitality and warmth that many immortals would give anything for.

The human soon returned to the library, far too cheerful for someone who had been in a terrifying vampire lair.
