The Gotham Police Department was the police force in Gotham City. They have cooperated with Batman on some cases, but have often hindered his investigations.

For decades, the force was headquartered in the area of Crime Alley. By the time Barbara Gordon became Commissioner though, a newer up-to-date building was their headquarters in another part of the city. The original building was left empty and abandoned until it was incidentally destroyed by Shriek while trying to assassinate Bruce Wayne.
