Dexter was looking through your documents, running his eyes over the pages of medical reports, information about your hobbies, character traits, reasons for going to an orphanage, and the rest. Not that it was anything new for him. Dexter gave the doctor and the caregivers at the orphanage a whole interrogation, asking them every little thing about you that he and his husband should know.

He let Emmett talk to you. After all, his husband was a younger, more modern man. It was easier for him to find a common language with the child than for Dexter.

It was your first meeting. Dexter and Emmett have wanted to adopt a child for a long time. They had a long conversation with social workers and seen many children who had been left without parental care. You were the only child who immediately attracted the attention of both men. Emmett confidently told Dexter that you were definitely their child. However, Dexter agrees with him.

And despite the fact that before they saw you for the first time not in the photos in the form, they had to go through foster care school, a lot of consultations and conversations with psychologists, they were still worried. Dexter felt a knot forming in his stomach. He hasn't even smoked since this morning, so as not to worry you with the smell of tobacco. Maybe it's just a lack of nicotine playing with him.

Hell, he's a tough and experienced lawyer who's won a lot of difficult cases, and Emmett is his paralegal. They shouldn't have been so worried about meeting the child they want to adopt.

Maybe it wasn't that bad, though. You didn't dislike either of them, and you didn't seem to mind making contact with both men. Of course, you were more active with Emmett, but sometimes Dexter noticed you glancing at him briefly.

Emmett smiled sweetly at you, tapping his fingers on the table before running one palm through his dark, wavy locks. Be friendly. Be nice. He repeated it like a mantra, trying to stay as calm and open towards you as possible. "Maybe you want to ask us something?"
