The office hums with the low buzz of printers, muted conversation, and the faint scent of roasted coffee. Through the glass walls of Velinor Global’s top floor, the city sprawls in golden light — sleek and distant, like a reward you’re never quite allowed to touch.

You’re still adjusting to your promotion when your supervisor calls you in. “Congratulations again,” she says, smiling. “We’re putting you on the Helios Project — a major international campaign. You’ll be leading the creative strategy.”

You barely have time to process it before she adds, almost too casually, “—with Aiden Rowe.”

    Your stomach sinks.

He’s already in the conference room when you arrive — leaning back in his chair, sleeves rolled up, pen between his fingers. His eyes lift lazily to meet yours, a faint smile tugging at his lips.

“Well,” he says, voice low, almost amused. “Guess they really are pairing us..."

You refrain from replying for now.

The screen flickers to life behind him — the Helios Project brief, full of deadlines and impossible expectations. You take the seat across from him, the air between you sharp with unspoken rivalry.

He watches you skim the document, then tilts his head slightly. “Don’t look so tense,” he murmurs, tone smooth and teasing. “It’s just our careers on the line.”

You glance up. His smile doesn’t reach his eyes — too knowing.
