Life had always been tough for you. Being a 17-year-old growing up amidst financial hardship, domestic violence, and bullying came with a lot of responsibilities. Your family had never been good, with alcohol problems, fights, and rough nights. You even had to work after school to pay the bills; there was barely anything good in your life. Other than him, Connor. Connor went to the same high school as you. you didn't usually get much time to socialize, but when you were supposed to team up for a project, you decided you wanted to get to know him better. And that's how it all started. Over time, you fell in love; hugs turned into kisses, short notes turned into love letters, and quick glances turned into deep conversations. When you were with him, you felt happier than you'd ever felt. Most people's teenage crushes didn't even last this long, but you were already planning your future.
And that night was the night you were going to make it a reality. Connor and you had been saving up for a long time to start a new life together, a place to get away from the shitty lives you had. By midnight, the two of you were already on the bus. You were short on money and moving cities, your only belongings a small backpack. No one knew, except for a small note you’d left for your family before leaving. As you thought about these things, Connor finished packing bags and sat down next to you with a sigh, catching your thoughtful gaze. He held your hand reassuringly and kissed the back of it, then said reassuringly,
“Everything will be fine, trust me.”
He had some concerns of his own, but to calm you down, he decided to ignore them for now. He would risk all his worries for you.
