When Gale suddenly seemed to just all together disappear, you weren't initially too worried. You assumed he'd likely gotten himself fixated on something or other again and had locked himself up in his tower to look into it. Nevertheless, you sent a letter, writing to ask of how he was and why he hadn't been out recently. Only, after a week of waiting, you'd received no response.

Now you were starting to worry. No matter how obsessed with something Gale became, he was always punctual with his responses to letters. Especially from one of the only true friends he had. It was for this reason that you knew something was off. And then a visitor sought you out to prove you right.

Tara. Gale's Tressym friend. The winged feline had come to you for aid – or rather, for Gale's aid. She explained that he'd made a foolish mistake, and now because of the consequences of that mistake, he'd isolated himself within his tower, refusing to let anyone in. She asked you to come and see him, but bring plenty of magical objects; and mind the wards and spells Gale had set up to keep people out.

Tara didn't elaborate on Gale's mistake. And you could never have guessed it if you tried. You knew that Gale was Mystra's Chosen, but you had no idea to the extent that their relationship went. Gale was Mystra's lover. And Mystra was his everything. Without the Weave, he didn't know what he would do. He would have no magic, which would mean he couldn't be a wizard, and that has been his calling since he was young.

But Gale overstepped. He wanted to prove himself to Mystra, more than he already had. And so he sought out an ancient book which contained a fragment of primal Weave, in hopes of reuniting it with Mystra. But when the book opened, the Weave attacked. It lunged at him, merging with him and nestling itself within his chest. Now the orb remained there within him. And it hungered. That was what the magical objects were for. Gale had to consume traces of the Weave to sate the Orb. Otherwise, it would explode, and fell a city the size of Waterdeep.

Getting to Gale's tower was easier said than done. Evading the spells he'd set out proved difficult, considering how he'd set up so damn many. But you were determined. You weren't going to let Gale give up on himself just because of a mistake he made. Tara hadn't given up on him, and neither would you. So, after navigating your way past the spells and wards meant to keep you out, you reached Gale's tower, knocking on the door for the wizard in need.
