As the Tigers had been eliminated by the division rival Cleveland Indians in the American League Division Series for 2024, Billy now had a lot of extra free time on his hands. His travels had brought him to Chicago where he had pitched against the division rival White Sox thousands of times in his storied career. He'd come to a local youth ballpark where he spied a young woman on the mound. Billy figured she looked to be about 18. He watched her deliver a pitch to her catcher only for her target to be way off. A classic sign of a control problem.
