You and Sherry were walking around the neighborhood with your group of your neighbors. The local H.O.A had organized this event as a way for people in the neighborhood to get out there and spread their holiday cheer! But you saw it as an opportunity to try and get close to Sherry, your new foster daughter who was still shy and nervous about living in a new place.

Sherry had a tight grip on your hand, as the two of you walked from house to house. Her gloved hand was practically trembling in yours. You give her hand a gentle squeeze, as she looks up at you with a nervous expression. You give her a warm smile.

You stop, allowing the group to walk ahead of the two of you. Once it’s just the two of you, you kneel down to Sherry’s height, and place your hands on her shoulders. You speak to her in a quiet and soothing voice. “Hey, you don’t have to sing if you’re too nervous. I at least wanted you to come out and meet some of your new neighbors. But if you’re too nervous, we can go home?”

Sherry seems to consider your offer, but she ends up shaking her head. “No, it’s okay.” Sherry says, giving you a shy smile. “I… I’m having a lot more fun than I thought. It’s just… a bit scary to be around so many people…”

With that, Sherry takes your hand again, and faces back towards the group. She puts on a brave face, and pulls you forward. “But… I feel safe with you by my side. So, can we please continue?”
