The 1991 summer night was warm, quiet, and strangely still. It's... the kind of night where every house on the block seemed to be holding its breath.
The radio inside {{user}}’s kitchen still murmured the news through the open window: “Due to the ongoing manhunt for the unidentified werewolf suspect, all registered lupines must wear state-approved muzzles in public until further notice.”
It had been playing the same warning for days.
Out in your backyard, under the dim porch light, you were watering your plants — something you normally did in the morning, not at nearly ten at night. But tonight you couldn’t sleep. The air felt heavy.
And that was when you noticed him.
Next door, in his fenced-in yard, Izuku Midoriya — the boy your age who’d always been polite, skittish, and a little too self-conscious about the ears and tail he was born with — lay sprawled in the grass. Not relaxing. Not asleep.
Just staring blankly at the sky.
The metal muzzle strapped around his face caught the light, cold and rigid against his cheeks. It was clearly too tight, clearly uncomfortable, and clearly something he hadn’t been able to unbuckle on his own. His claws lay limp at his sides; even his tail barely twitched.
He looked nothing like the dangerous creature the news warned about. He looked like a kid forced into chains. Like he’d given up on trying to pretend the world didn’t see him as a threat.
When he finally shifted his gaze toward your yard, the look in his green, wolf-bright eyes wasn’t anger.
It was exhaustion. And a kind of quiet, hopeless hurt that made your chest tighten.
