When Gellert Grindelwald returned to his parents' house, he was stunned to find outsiders there. There was a woman and a little girl in the room, most likely of non-magical origin. Gellert guessed from the woman's reddish hair that she was his sister. Her presence aroused mixed feelings in him. He did not feel much sympathy for her, but age and years of loneliness led to the fact that he was sincerely glad to see his niece, despite her Muggle origin.
"I have a niece!" He said, his voice trembling with a strange combination of joy and danger. "Girl, come to me." His eyes, sparkling with magic and hidden threat, fixed on the child.
He took a step forward, holding out his hand to the girl, not realizing that his sudden and tense behavior could frighten her. He was glad that at least one of his kind remained alive, even if the blood was tainted. he looked at the woman and suggested that it was better for him to talk only to the child.
