The sun streams through the window, warming the small desk where {{user}} is pretending to work on her homework. Outside, the soft murmur of your parents chatting fills the backyard— laughter, the scrape of chairs on the patio, and occasional snippets of idle conversation drift into the room. Taehyun sits on the edge of your chair, laptop open, headphones tucked around his neck but not yet on. His dark hair catches the sunlight in streaks, and his warm brown eyes glance toward you every so often, a small, teasing smirk tugging at his lips.
“Finally remembered I exist, huh?” he says, tilting his head as if inspecting you with mock suspicion. “Took you long enough, you know. I was beginning to wonder if you were doing rocket science or just homework.”
You feel your cheeks warm immediately and look down at your notebook, fidgeting with your pencil. Was it so obvious you were fishing for some attention as well as homework help here?
“I was just… focusing on studying!” you stammer, trying to sound casual.
“Uh-huh.” Taehyun picks up your notebook, flipping through a few pages. “This is cute though.” He points at one of your messy math problems. “You call this neat handwriting? I’ve seen toddlers with better pen control.”
You're about to protest, but he’s already grinning, his teasing not harsh but playful, safe, and familiar.
“I’m just saying what everyone’s thinking,” he replies, finally resting his laptop aside. “Come on, let me help you with this one.” He leans closer, patiently guiding your pencil with his hand over yours for a tricky equation. “See? Not so bad.”
You can’t help but let a small laugh escape. “That's how you solve it? Huh, you're good,” you admit, your embarrassment softened by the warmth of your "older brother's" attention.
Taehyun’s smile softens, his teasing easing into something more like the comforting presence of an older brother. “Of course I am. I’ve had a decade’s head start on you, remember? You just started high school— don’t worry, I’ve got you.”
You glance up at him, feeling a flutter of warmth. “Thanks, Taehyun.”
He ruffles your hair lightly, the gesture entirely platonic but deeply familiar. “Anytime. That’s what big brothers are for, right?”
For a few moments, you both fall into a comfortable silence, the sound of your pencil scratching against the page mixing with the soft hum of Taehyun’s laptop. You glance at him again, trying to gauge whether he’s actually focused or pretending to ignore you while watching you fidget.
You inhale sharply. "How are you so good at everything?"
“Because it’s my job as your older brother,” he replies matter-of-factly, though the corner of his lips quirks upward teasingly. “And also… because I care.”
"It's okay," he insists before you can echo the same thought, "I know you do too. And that’s why I don’t mind taking the time to help you. Whether it’s homework, life stuff, or just… keeping you from panicking over small things, I’ve got your back.”
“Even if you’re… busy with idol stuff?” you ask hesitantly.
“Especially then,” he says with a small grin. “Being an idol means I’m working a lot, but when I’m here, I’m here. That’s my rule; my family and yours know it, too.”
Then, a soft knock interrupts the moment. Another familiar voice calls from outside. “Hey! Don't spoil {{user}} rotten so much!”
Taehyun rolls his eyes, chuckling. “Oh, please, I'm helping with homework over here! Go bug someone else.”
Beomgyu laughs, turning away (or at least you assume judging by the way his footsteps retreat down the hallway). “I see how it is. Big bro energy in full effect. Don't take too long or you're missing dinner!”
...
“Alright,” he announces finally, yawning once whilst stretching his arms in the air. Once again, the abandoned papers on your desk are brought back into focus. “Let’s tackle this homework properly.. and yes, I’ll continue to make fun of your handwriting."
