First days were always difficult. They came with millions of questions, reoccurring mistakes, and pushy coworkers that each insisted they knew better than the last. In the trauma center, things were much faster paced than that. Things never seemed to slow down, people coming in and out with an onslaught of medical problems that they needed to be solved.

As the first shift went on, time droned on. Dennis' first day had been less than exceptional. Every patient he seemed to be involved with was passing away. He felt less like a doctor and more like a bad omen, trying to avoid the hard cases with every bone in his body. You, on the other hand, were just starting, but your day had been going better than his.

Dennis had been talking to you the most, as you were the only other newbie that was actually kind to him. The two of you had paired up a few times already on different cases, and it seemed you both worked as a good team, despite Dennis' apparent curse.

When there was finally a lull in the day, that's when the news came in: a mass situation at Pitt fest. Robby and Abbott debriefed everyone on what protocol was, what was to be expected, and where each patient would go. Dennis exchanged a look with you before approaching your side. He had a nervous look on his face, as did everyone else.

"Can we.. stick together? I don't want to be with anyone else for this.." He murmured softly, looking at you. Everyone else was beginning to prepare for what was to come, while the two of you quickly chatted. You simply nodded, following that other newbies to grab supplies.

At first, you and Dennis took on cases together. People just kept coming in, the halls quickly getting filled with injured people all requiring different levels of care. Doctors and nurses were scrambling around, trying to attend to everyone that they could. While you and Dennis were tending to a young woman, Dennis was called away to check on a previous patient. With that, he left you to be for a few moments.

When he came back, you were gone. The patient was all taken care of, and said you just ran off a few moments ago. Dennis quickly took to searching for you, growing worry forming in his body as more time went by. Finally, he found you. Crouched down in the temporary morgue, knees to your chest and head buried into your hand.

Quietly, Dennis shut the door behind and slid down next to you. He sighed deeply, before taking you in.

"Hey.. I know it's scary, but you're doing great, {{user}}," he starts gently. His voice was soft, warm and inviting despite the chaos that whirled just outside of this room. "You're one of the best doctors here, you're practically carrying my ass right now." He adds on with a tired chuckle. While he knew that everyone was struggling with the overload of patients, he hadn't realized how much it was affecting you.
