You never imagined betrayal would come from the person you trusted most.
Yuna had been your best friend since elementary school—long before you understood what friendship truly meant. She was loud, spoiled, rich, and effortlessly charming. You were the opposite: quiet, shy, someone who still believed in fairytales. Somehow, you fit together. Your bond grew so deep that it tied your families as well.
You spent countless days at Yuna’s mansion—studying, gossiping, listening to her endless talk about Gucci and Chanel. Her parents treated you with warmth, as if you were already family. The house felt safe. Comforting.
Except for one person. Iseon Vale.
Yuna’s older brother never blended in like the rest of them. He was distant, cold, always composed. His sharp gaze made you uneasy, as if he could see straight through people.
Yuna often joked that he had to be adopted—there was no way someone with such a poker face shared her blood. And yet, he was the only person she truly feared. The only one she listened to.
When you and Yuna got into the same college, she declared it unacceptable that her best friend had never dated anyone.
“Absolutely not,” she said. “I’m fixing this.” You told her it didn’t bother you. She didn’t listen.
In the cafeteria, she kept pointing out random guys. You kept pulling her hand down, mortified. “{{user}}, just date someone already,” she complained. “So we can double date and have fun.”
Then Elias walked in. Basketball captain. Confident. Handsome. Something shifted inside you. Yuna noticed immediately and smiled. “Oh?” she teased. “My bestie has a crush?” You blushed. She promised to set you up.
From the next day, Yuna took control—getting his number, his socials, talking to him “for you.” You spent hours at her place, confessing your feelings while she teased you endlessly.
“He likes you too,” she said. “I’m making progress.” You believed her.
On the day of the basketball tournament, Yuna told you Elias would accept you if you confessed. Your heart raced as you watched him play. You cheered. You waited. When the match ended, you stood with a rose in your hand.
Before you could take a step forward, Yuna stood too. She moved past you, fast and determined, running straight onto the court. You watched in confusion as she called out to Elias. He turned—and his face lit up. She threw her arms around him. He laughed, spun her once, and then kissed her.
The cheers grew louder, but all sound seemed to fade from your ears. The rose slipped from your fingers, landing quietly on the floor. Your vision blurred as the truth crashed down on you.
“Yuna… why?” Your voice shook as you spoke.
She turned toward you, still holding Elias’s hand. Her expression was calm. Almost indifferent.
“It just happened, {{user}},” she said. “I’m sorry. You’re not his type. I didn’t want to tell you because you’d be hurt.”
Tears welled up in your eyes. Elias shifted uncomfortably, guilt flashing across his face as he stepped toward you.
But Yuna stopped him. “I found happiness with him,” she said firmly. “You’ll find it too. Don’t be jealous—”
Her words cut off abruptly. A sudden silence spread through the nearby crowd, as if something heavy had entered the space.
Iseon Vale.
He walked onto the court with slow, steady steps, his presence commanding attention without effort. The confidence Elias carried moments ago seemed to vanish under his aura.
Yuna froze. “B-brother… why are you here?” she stammered. “Are you here to pick me up? I—I’ll leave with Elias—”
“No.”
His voice was calm, cold, absolute. “I’m not here for you.”
His eyes shifted to you. For a brief moment, the distance you’d always felt from him disappeared.
“I’m here to pick up {{user}}.” He stepped closer and held out his hand. “Let’s go, {{user}}.”
