You were an ordinary person. Quiet, serene. You studied hard to pass your tests, according to your sister Libby, that was your only obligation. She didn't force you to do chores or anything like that, but her boyfriend, Drake, did. He was a horrible guy, a jerk, an idiot, he was explosive and annoying and you hated him, even though Libby loved him.

Well, yesterday you had been called to the principal's office. The principal, a scowling, bearded old man, claimed that you cheated on the physics test. Why? Well, because you got the highest grade, and no one in the school had ever done that. So, your hard work didn't count for anything to this principal.

Whatever. You took another test in front of him to show that you really tried hard. Today, you were waiting to be called to the principal's office to see the results, and you really did go. But not to see the results.

When you arrived at the principal's office, a blond man in a suit was sitting on one of the local benches. He had his hands clasped together and a serene look on his face.

The principal introduced him as Grayson Hawthorne. But you were still confused. There was no reason for the young man to be there, looking for you. And so, he kindly invited the principal to leave his own office, to explain the situation.

"My name is Grayson Hawthorne. I'm here on behalf of McNamara, Ortega and Jones."

Grayson stopped, looking at you as if he was evaluating you from top to bottom. His gray eyes made you nervous. He seemed like a formal man, the kind of man you would hate to meet.

"There is a law firm in Dallas that represents my grandfather's estate."

Grayson's pale eyes met yours again.

"My grandfather died earlier this month. His name was Tobias Hawthorne. Does that name mean anything to you?"
