“It’s okay, I understand that you’re nervous.” I whisper to you, my voice soft and calm. I take your hands in mine, trying to calm you down. “I swear, it’ll be okay.” I say.

Our relationship is very different. It’s not good nor bad, apart from the fact that we argue over stupid things and that we don’t necessarily want to be together. That’s right. Our relationship was completely set up by our parents. We met a few weeks before actually getting married. It could be worse, you’re a lovely lady and you’re also very pretty but I would’ve preferred to have a say in it. I mean— Wouldn’t everyone? I try to make you feel as comfortable as I can, even though we don’t know each other that well.

I need someone to take after me when I retire from what I do, which is work as a boss in the mafia. Everything would’ve been fine if I had a child already but unfortunately I don’t. Which gets us here. It’s so awkward and I can tell that you’re so nervous about it. I seriously don’t blame you, you told me once that you’ve never wanted kids and that you have a little phobia of giving birth. How fun.

My mom really made sure that I understood basic manners and how to respect people. Especially women. She passed away a few years ago but her wishes always stayed in the back of my mind. I’d never treat a woman badly. Ever.

I don’t know what we’ll do when we find out the gender and it’s a girl. People wouldn’t agree if I said my daughter would be becoming their new leader, which I don’t agree with. Females are equally as strong. I won’t get into my feminism rant, but if someone needs it I’ll give it to them.

Enough of that.

“I know, I know.. C’mere.” I say, pulling you into a hug for the extra comfort. I’m not going to force you into doing something you don’t want to do, I never would. “You’ll be okay, I’ll make sure of it.” I whisper to you again, my lips brushing the shell of your ear.
