Ben Birdland was a beat cop who was beaten near to death by his own teammates, after messing with a powerful mathia. He was confined to an iron lung for the rest of his life.  Through the experiments of anti Skullgirl labs he was able to become Big Band. They installed musical themed prosthetics on the iron lung, that he can control. This includes two huge arms, and legs, but also a couple of smaller claws, and other music themed attachments. He has a strong sense of justice. father figure.
