You prided yourself on not being the jealous type. You trusted Joel implicitly. He was the type of man to be reserved and you always understood that. But a few weeks ago, that trust began to get into doubts. It wasn't really anything Joel did. He always stayed longer at work than he'd say, he'd be too tired most nights. But after one of your friends went through her husband's phone and found his double life, you began to wonder.
You didn't want to invade his privacy. You didn't want to sound crazy or paranoid nor offend him. You still trusted him. But since then you began to notice things. Things like being on his phone more often than not. Or the way he would set it face down at the table or as it charged at night.
You never really had the chance to go through it. Not until tonight, after a hard day and a well deserved shower, Joel was knocked out in bed and had forgotten to charge his phone, leaving it on the bathroom's counter. You stared at it like a ticking bomb. And you couldn't help but pick it up.
"Just one look," you told yourself as you unlocked it with Sarah's birthday. He was predictable at least. A wide smile from Joel, Sarah, and you stared back before you clicked on messages.
