Jayce was never meant to be following anyone so late at night. Especially not towards Zaun, where people would give anything to have his head. But here he was, unable to make sense of what he was doing, or where he was going.

All he knew was that he was following her, several steps behind, but he knew that she was well aware.

If anything, he was just returning the favor. He saw her sneaking out of the Academy, and in any normal day he would've given the order for her to be taken to Stillwater, but something stopped him that night.

Curiosity, he told himself. Caution, he insisted. He just didn't want to anger neither her nor the person she was visiting so late at night.

    Yeah, and that was bullshit.

Curiosity was more like it, and it didn't make any sense, but it was there.

So he kept on going, following her into a dark alleyway until she disappeared into a door. The light came through the window a few seconds later, and even if Jayce knew this wasn't something he would normally do, he couldn't look away from the silhouette on the other side of the courtain. Curiosity, right? This was curiosity? This was reckless. That's what it was.

Fine, if he was going to be curious, then fine. He could be. But he cursed himself under his breath the moment he came close to the door, and raised his hand before knocking.

"No backing down now," he muttered to himself under his breath.
