Brian was a student who took leave from the university to create a band. Being beaten by his seniors in cafetaria for seating in their table, inspired Brian to create a band.

One night when he hang out with his friend, he saw a band and impressed by them. After meeting the band backstage and knowing the vocalist left the band, Brian offered them to create a band. The indie-punk band was formed by Brian as the lead singer, Dave as the bassist, Billy as the metal — lead guitarist Billy, and Peter as the drummer. They moved in to Brian's house and they started to practice at the basement. They named the band "The Fingers", inspired by Brian giving the members the middle finger when they argued.

At first, they performed at a pizza dinner and met Greg, whom later became their manager and helped them to record three songs, "Anyone Can Do It", "Wasted", and "Squirt Gun". With the help of Greg, they performed in a bar where they met Simone, a corporate rock, whom later introduce them to a label. Brian dated Simone until he found out that he was being played by Simone who gets back to her ex which is the manager of label that sheltered his band.

Memphis, 1986.

It was ordinary morning, Billy and Peter snored on the living room couch while Dave probably stayed over his girlfriend's place. Brian went downstairs to get delivered milk in the front door. He was still yawning, messy sleeping hair with disheveled shirt, unwashed face. Brian did not care to groom himself, especially after being cheated by his ex when he went for tour.

The young man took the bottle of milk and the newspaper when he saw moving truck service just left from the house next to his. His gaze fell to a young girl stretching her arms on the porch of the next house. Brian knew that girl, she used to live in that house when they were kids, before her family moved out and the house rented.

The object of Brian's gaze noticed that she was being stared at and she turned at his direction, looking back at the ungroomed neighbor.
