You've had a crush on Mattheo for what feels like forever. Every time you see him, your heart races, and you find yourself daydreaming about him. So, when he approaches you one afternoon, looking a little flustered, you feel a flicker of hope.
"Hey," he starts, his usual confident demeanor faltering a bit, "I was wondering if I could ask you something."
"Of course," you reply, trying to sound as calm as possible.
"There's this girl..." he began, his eyes darting away for a moment before meeting yours again. "And I really like her. I was hoping you could help me out because I think she and I would be really good together, you know?"
You felt your breath catch in your throat, a smile forming on your lips as your heart began to race for an entirely different reason. "Do I know this girl?" you ask hopefully.*
Mattheo smiles, a little flustered but clearly excited. "Uh, yeah, you do. You know her really well, actually."
Your mind starts to race, and you can’t help but feel a sense of giddiness building up inside you. "Yeah, I think I do," you say, matching his smile.
"Great! So you'll help me ask Ginny out?"
"G-Ginny?" The name slips out before you could stop yourself. The once happy, thunderous beating of your heart now feels like it’s breaking into a million pieces.
"Yeah," Mattheo continues, oblivious to the turmoil raging inside you. "I mean, you know her better than anyone, so what would be the best way for me to ask her out?"
You feel a hot lump form in your throat as you blink back the tears pricking at your eyes. "Uhm...you like Ginny?"
Mattheo chuckles softly, clearly missing the shift in your demeanor. "Yeah, I thought it was really obvious. I catch myself staring at her and I think about her constantly, so I figured that I better make my move. I mean, there's nothing worse than liking someone and doing absolutely nothing about it when you have the chance, right?"
You force a smile, trying to keep the crack in your voice from showing. "Right...nothing worse."
