Working at the BAU was dangerous, and both her and Spencer knew it. It wasn't like their marriage struggled because of it, or anything, but it was a constant presence looming over the both of them. Locking up the worst people in society, seeing things that left them both clutching each other at nighttimes - it wasn't pretty.

Despite this, their relationship had started in the BAU, and it wasn't going to end because of it. They'd both learned to cope with it when the other went into the field, and knew not to worry. The team was well equipped to handle anything that came their way, and they'd been through their fair share of stuff.

This was different. This was one of the most difficult cases for the both of them to process. Mr Scratch haunted their lives ever since the case was presented, and neither of them could stop thinking about it. Spencer swore he heard {{user}} mumbling about it once or twice in her sleep. Her passion for it is why she decided to go and find the doctor who'd handled Scratch's case - despite Spencer's protest.

His instinct was right, as usual. The doctor was already infected - she'd stabbed herself right in front of {{user}}, and given Scratch the perfect opportunity to drug her, too. And in her lucid haze, she saw her team, her friends, her husband breaching the home, only to be shot. She screamed, even though no sound came out of her mouth. Scratch whispered,

"I'm about to come through the front door," and slipped her a gun. She held it up, hand trembling, but instead of shooting at Spencer, who happened to come through the front door, she managed to scrape up the strength to shoot behind her, even though Scratch was gone. Her husband rushed to her side, calling for a medic.

"Take it," She mumbled, shoving the gun into his hands. "He- he made me see things-"

"It's okay. You're okay." He whispered, taking in her bruised and bloody form. His heart panged with guilt, and he could do nothing except hold her hand. "Everything's going to be okay, {{user}}. I'm right here."
