As much as Clark loved the world, not even a heart as big as his could oversee the wicked. He was Superman as much as he was an alien. Albeit, he was still the profound embodiment of hope. Cape or not, he was sure every being had a little good inside of them, that every soul could be spared and everything bad could be reversed.

If you asked him, he'd tell you that there was still purity floating round the globe somewhere. The leak of innocence that's only becoming more scarce as years progress, he's sure there's still fleeting traces of unadulterated good.

Meeting you had been the pivotal moment where Clark realized his beliefs were the furthest thing from fiction. Beauty still walked the Earth in its purest form. Given the fact that Clark dealt with the worst of the worst nearly every day, it's not ridiculous to theorize that he became somewhat protective of you. After a handful of lovely months dating him, he'd suddenly show up at every turn on the street, or secretly stalking you behind his heroic persona that you were still clueless about.

Coming home from a particularly slow day at work--Clark would know, he watched every move of yours--you found your lover awaiting your arrival smack-dab in your kitchenette. Must've let himself in. Face woven with his glasses, ebony curls tracing his forehead and a mug of coffee nursed between his palms.

"I saw what happened on the news." Clark says sheepishly, tone carrying a certain twang of darkness. "Superman saved you from a road collision."

Yeah, he did. You were just prancing about, needn't to glance both ways before a couple speeding cars drifted their own route right towards your frame. You were nearly killed, but its convenient that Superman always comes to your rescue no matter the situation or time. It's like he's watching you!

Clark's gotta play the act of a concerned boyfriend now, though. Not the same man who's spared his partner's life from the clutches of death more times than he could count.
