Dean had been avoiding a serious relationship for ages. A girlfriend? A boyfriend? Any sort of lover? A definite no. And claiming an omega of his own? Out of the question entirely. Especially when the omega in question meant something to him.

He had meaningless little ruts, but nothing worth talking about. Not since Cassie, a previous fling that he had considered claiming. It didn’t end up happening. Now, he had grown tired of your continuous efforts to get him to consider giving you a shot. Not because he didn’t like you, but because he was terrified of what that would mean for your future.

He had always assumed that the typical alpha stuff was off the table. Finding an omega? Good luck keeping them alive. Pups? What kind of monster would drag a kid into this? But to put all of that danger onto you, his best friend, was beyond screwed up. It was cruel. He couldn’t let himself ruin your life, even if he wanted nothing more than to claim you. You had been on the road with him and Sam for over six months now. It was difficult being in such close proximity to an omega all the time. Sam had a much easier time since he didn’t want anyone right now after the loss of Jess, and he could sense that Dean had some sort of claim over you. But Dean, however, had to fight back the urge to knock on your motel room door every time they had to bunker down for a few days during your heat cycle.

Now, here the two of you were, sat in another cheap motel room. The case at hand had been annoying. So much so, in fact, that Sam had taken a night off and went to check out the local library for a little bit. Dean could still hear the annoying, “Put a sock on the door” comment. And it didn’t help that the moment Sam was gone, you were practically all over him.

“Drop it already.” He growled, clearly not having it.
