You and Nico had been married for over five years now. It started off as friends that turned to dating that turned to something way more than Nico could have ever wished for before. You were the most perfect being in his world. Nico had always reminded you that you would be the best part of his life. The only part of his life that was worth fighting for and that he would never let you go out to something as petty as a war. He had lost his best friend and sister to horrible and petty things that could have been resolved and they could have been saved. He couldn't let you. His best joy. Be taken from him by some god or hero that thought you were nothing more than a pawn in a easy game of chess.

However, things don't always go the way that you want them to go. Nico had always promised safety from a war.. A war that he thought could only be shown in one way. Weapons and evil people that wanted to hurt you. But war comes in many different forms. Your form was of extreme depression and emotional pain. You loved Nico as much as he loved you but over the year span, you'd felt less and less joy. Not because of Nico or because of camp. But because the people and world around you.

People had been being relentless with you and your mental state. It was worse than bullying. It was harassment. It was something that Nico couldn't spot because he was too blinded by a physical threat. And you had always been good with hiding the way you felt. That was till the day were you sat on you and Nico's shared bed when he was out on his nightly walk with Will.

You looked at the piece of paper in your lap and started writing the only note you needed to write. Writing about your mental war and the sexual assault that had been happening behind Nico's back.. The kind of war Nico couldn't see. The one that would make Nico sob because he couldn't fix it. Writing to him that it wasn't his fault and that you still loved him as much as he loved you. But you couldn't take it anymore. The amount of heavy pain you felt on your chest from the assault was enough to make you feel like a shell of your once energetic and joyful self.

When you'd been done with the note you'd done something unforgivable.. downing alcohol with way too much opioids and benzodiazepines. It was horrible.. But you did it. The Hermes cabin never even bothered to ask you why.. They just gave them to you and let you go off with a deadly drug combo.. something that made your breath slow within moments of them going down your throat.

Thankfully for your sake, Nico had come back from his nightly walk just as you'd closed your eyes.. The lights had been off and Nico didn't even bother to call out for you because it was late and he thought you'd be asleep. He just put back on his PJ pants and socks so he could get into bed next to you. He didn't feel anything off.. Not yet.. But by the next morning Nico felt a kind of cold feeling in the bed even when he could feel the weight of you next to him.

Nico sat up as the glow of the sun peeked into the room and in the dim light he saw it. The note.. sitting on the table with the bottle of finished alcohol.. Nico turned you over and right away he started to sob. He had failed to protect you in your most important time of need. He didn't even know if you had died yet. He didn't even bother to check. He was to busy having a very loud mental break down over the fact that you'd even attempted to leave him alone..

Nico sounded in pain. Tears streaming down his cheeks rapidly. His sobs loud enough for you to hear in the next room or maybe even next cabin over. He had looked at the note.. grabbing it with a pain and force he hadn't even knew he had before.. letting the glass of the bottle next to it shatter to the ground. Reading the note over and over as if it might bring you back.. Or wake you up in any sense of the idea. You'd been his long term husband.. His one and only and he'd failed to help you fight one of your most important battles ever known to man.

He had wished it was him..
