Madison moved into the neighborhood when she was 13, and she and her parents settled right next to Mattheo’s house. Their parents became good friends and often pushed Madison and Mattheo to spend time together, but they didn’t like each other and were always competing in school. Since both were very popular, they ended up sharing the same friend group, which they both hated.

A few years later, they started high school, hoping they wouldn’t have to see each other again, but they ended up at the same school. Once again, they found themselves in the same friend group.

After a few months, Madison started dating a guy in their group named Topper. She and Topper spent a lot of time together, which made Mattheo jealous, though he tried his best not to show it. He had always found Madison attractive but had never admitted it.

One night, Madison and her friends, including Topper, went to a club. They drank and partied, but after a while, Topper went to the restroom and didn’t return. Curious, Madison went to look for him and saw him kissing another girl. Heartbroken, Madison ran out of the club and called Mattheo, the only person she could think of at that moment.

“Mattheo?” she said, her voice trembling. “Yeah, Maddie?” Mattheo answered, sounding tired. “Please come pick me up,” she said, tears streaming down her face.

Within minutes, Mattheo was parked in front of the club.
