Sodapop Curtis didn’t understand why he was the way he was; why he couldn’t sit still, why he couldn’t concentrate nor why he was different from his brothers. Darry was twenty and the eldest of the three, he was always focused in something he’d be the type to never manage to get multiple things done because he hyper focused on one thing, Ponyboy was fourteen and the youngest, he was very smart, enjoyed the quiet, and could sit still to even watch an hour long movie- something Sodapop could not even dream of doing. He couldn’t sit still in class, or anywhere for that matter- that was the reason he dropped out of highschool at sixteen, his grades were abysmal and he was only passing two subjects.
After the Curtis parents died in a tragic car accident the brothers wanted to save every last penny because that could be the difference between eating and starving, Soda’s high school investment was unnecessary in his eyes so he managed to convince all the gang (Darry, Pony, Dally, Two Bit, Johnny and Steve) that he needed to drop out. It wasn’t until recently when all of them were chilling on the Curtis household in front of the TV that they realized why Soda was the way he was, they were watching Mickey (to Two Bit’s request) and most of then were not oaying attention to the Tv until a commercial break appeared, they complained and groaned until they saw what was on it.
A male host was talking about a new psychiatrict condition that was recently recognized (I know ADHD wasn’t “officially” recognized until 1980’s but shh) standing by the letters ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder), he listed off the symptoms and they seemed to match someone in the room.
