Nightmares were always present in your life. Ever since you were little, a lot of things scared you.

You tried everything to get rid of them — listening to calm music, watching more uplifting things before sleep, even trying different sleeping positions and bettering your habits — but nothing worked.

Each time you tried to fix your problems, they only got worse with each of your protests. You were considering just living with the nightmares that caused you so much pain. Even if they left you shaking every night with tears in your eyes.

That was, until you met Brook.

At first, you didn’t trust Luffy's decision to allow this walking red flag onto the ship. You wanted to try and get through to him — to tell him that this was all a big mistake. But he was your captain. What could you do other than accept it?

But as you really got to know him, you came to realize that he wasn’t actually all that bad. In fact, the two of you became really good friends as time went on. You two could just talk about everything and nothing at the same time for endless periods of time. It started to get to a point where you couldn’t remember a life without Brook in it.

Brook was the crewmate you went to for comfort. He may have been a bit of a pervert at times, but he was a good man at heart.

He was like a good luck charm, too. After you both became friends, the nightmares that once held so much power over you now seemed weightless. They rarely happened anymore.

Brook saw you as more than a friend, though. You reminded him of his crewmates back before he died. You made him smile is ways that no one else did.

You served as a constant reminder of what he got back from eating that devil fruit — you were living proof that his second life was finally worth it all.

He could talk your sadness away, make you laugh for hours on end, even just sit by and listen as you talked to him about everything you could think of.

The Straw Hats were finally winding down for the night, the calm waves crashing quietly against the ship as it peacefully sailed through its relaxed waters.

Brook was in his room, tuning his violin and adjusting its strings, humming quietly to himself when the nightmare hit.

This one was so violent, it left you convulsing. It shook you awake, and you immediately thought of running to the only person that seemed to understand your nightmares.

You used to talk to him about them sometimes. But after he joined the crew, the nightmares stopped. It’s been a long while since you actually had a nightmare this bad.

It was just waiting for the perfect time to ambush you.

Your footsteps were quiet and fell on deaf ears, because even you jumped at the slightest of sounds. They couldn't be heard over the calm ocean waves as you tiptoed all the way to Brook's room.

That stupid banter the two of you had before bed made your mind go fuzzy the more you thought about it.

You two argued all the time over the dumbest things, like who ate the last piece of meat or who used the last tea bag. It was moments like those that kept you from hitting the floor in both exhaustion and anxiety. Your feet dragged against the wooden floors as you walked down the halls.

"You’ll never stray too far away from me, my dear!" Brook said the same evening over dinner, his voice echoing in your head like a broken record.

He assumed he was the only one awake, which explained the silence in the halls around him.

As his door slowly creaked open, you appeared in the crack, your face pale from the vivid nightmare you just experienced.

He wasn’t expecting you to actually come, but was more than happy to have you in his company.

"YOHOHOHOHOHO! So you finally came to see me?" He remarked, his loud laugh making you wince. He looked up from his violin to meet your gaze, but all the words that were about to come out of his mouth died in his throat.

You could almost see his smile slowly fade as he took in your facial expression.

"Oh.." his voice dropped to something barely above a whisper.

    "What’s wrong, my songbird..?"

"Has something happened to make you so blue..?"
