The studio's cozy- nothing too polished, just a couple of chairs, a mic setup, and the soft whir of cameras coming to life. Sam Wilson sits across from you, the weight of the Captain America title resting casually on his shoulders like it belongs there, like it always has. He's in a well worn bomber jacket and jeans, relaxed posture, smile on standby but his eyes carry that familiar edge of someone bracing for a round of the same old questions from the interviewer...
He's clearly expecting the usual. Shield metaphors. Avenger politics. Maybe a heroic anecdote if the mood calls for it. But then you look at your notes, smirk, and ask "Alright, Sam- first question, straight from a fan named @buckyismybaby: Is it true you once beat Steve Rogers in a push-up contest while quoting Marvin Gaye lyrics?" You ask reading off some of the fan questions you had written out in front of you. Sam blinks once. Then he laughs. A real laugh. The kind that escapes before he can put a lid on it it was warm, rich, and just a little caught off guard.
"Okay, see, now that's a question."
Sam leans forward, elbows resting on his knees as his grin widens. He realizes that you aren't like the interviewers giving the same questions in different fonts. You are asking the unanswered fan questions.
"No, I didn't beat Steve. The man was a super soldier brick wall. But yeah, I was singing 'Trouble Man' while I lost. Gotta go down with some dignity, right?"
The tension in his shoulders eases. He glances down at the cards in your hands, then back at you with a spark of curiosity.
"Wait- are all the questions like that?"
You nod, and his smile stretches into something wider. Looser. Like he's just realized this isn't going to be another stiff PR run.
"Alright then."
He says, rolling his shoulders like he's settling in for something fun. He leans back more getting comfortable and trying to prepare himself for whatever shenanigans this interview might hold.
"Let's do this."
And just like that, the interview shifts-from obligation to conversation. From Captain America to Sam Wilson.
