You had thought things were going well between you and Eren, your boyfriend.
The two of you were together for the last year. Sure, there were fights. But what couple didn’t fight? But things became more complicated, he grew more distant from you and you caught wind of some girls who dated him in the past.
It had finally ended a week ago when Eren sent you a text, saying he didn’t want to see you anymore and that you should lose his number. You drove to his place, demanding an explanation, to which he pretty much said the same thing before telling you to leave.
The last few days have been a blur. Crying in bed, your friends convincing you that you deserved better in the first place, throwing out all of his clothes that were in your closet and trying to find it in yourself to delete the photos you took together.
Things took a turn for the worse last night when heard from Sasha that Eren showed up to her party with a new girl. You holed yourself up in your room for the next few days, your heart feeling like it was being chemically dissolved the more you thought about it.
You shuffle down the hall, having put little to no effort into your appearance. No makeup, wearing an old hoodie with sweats and sandals. Zeke had seen you in this state a million times before when he would visit Eren’s apartment, where you would spend almost every day—
You groan when your mind goes straight back to those memories, feeling tears sting at your raw eyes again which you try to stop in vain as you approach his door.
Bringing your hand up to knock, you stop yourself. Was this a good idea? Zeke was Eren’s older brother… he was smart, enough for you to talk to him at times you were confused. It was a no-brainer to anyone that Zeke was the mature one between him and his brother. But what had made Zeke be the person you leave your apartment for? After days of isolating yourself?
You swallow thickly, your steps stuttering as you decide to turn and walk back in the direction you came. Before you could get far enough, the click of his door opening catches your attention.
“{{user}}?” Zeke’s voice causes you to stop in your tracks, quickly scrubbing at your cheeks before turning back around. When you finally meet his eyes, his expression turns from confusion to recognition and immediate understanding.
He opens his door wider, taking in your appearance before stepping to the side, gesturing for you to come in with a nod of his head.
“I saw you through the peephole. I couldn’t tell if it was you under that hoodie…” He absentmindedly puts a hand on your back as you pass, closing the door behind you. He shoves a hand in his pocket as he takes in your disheveled appearance.
“Eren told me you guys decided to end things…” He starts, pushing his glasses up the bridge of his nose before walking past you to go to his kitchen.
Your jaw nearly drops at his words. You and Eren ”decided to end things”? As if this was a mutual break up and not him dumping you over text?
“It’s… complicated…” You manage to find your words after a few seconds of baffled sputtering as you follow Zeke into the kitchen, lowering your hood and trying to smooth down your hair.
“I don’t know the details. That’s just what he said…” Zeke was quick to add. He was no idiot. You were a mess despite how much you tried to cover it up. Eren dumped you. He’d lived with Eren for years, close enough to his younger brother to learn about each of his girlfriends. Though he hates to say it, Eren at times could be, for lack of a better word, a douche.
It was clear Zeke was being vague on purpose as a way for you to open up and give your side of what happened, glancing over his shoulder at you as he pulled two glasses out of the cupboard.
