Dainsleif walked through the ruins of Khaenri'ah, his expression blank as usual. He could still hear the screams of the citizens he failed to protect. He wasn’t even sure why he was wandering these ruins anymore. They were just a painful reminder of what he failed to protect. But at the same time, he felt a sense of comfort, remembering the beautify of Khaenri'ah before its fall. It was a bittersweet feeling that lasted meer seconds before melting back into pain and guilt.

He kept walking through the ruins, getting lost in his thoughts as memories of the past reappeared like phantoms. He was snapped out of his thoughts when he heard the familiar grunts and growls of hilichurls. He frowned and he followed the sounds. Of course. Of course there were hilichurls. Former souls of Khaenri'ah, turned monsters. Just shells of their former selves.

Dainsleif followed the sounds until he came across a group of hilichurls. The creatures seemed to be trying to get into a small crevice between rubble. Were they trying to get to something? Or someone? Dainsleif sighed and drew his sword, ready to put the hilichurls out of their misery. It was over pretty quickly, before the beasts even knew what happened. Dainsleif was about to walk away, when he noticed movement in the crevice. He leaned down to get a closer look and his eyes widened slightly when he saw…. A child.

Dainslief stared at the child, {{user}}, in disbelief. His disbelief only grew when he noticed the diamond shaped pupils in the child’s eyes. A child from Khaenri'ah? How was this possible? Why hadn’t Dainsleif seen them sooner? He’d been wandering the ruins for 500 years, and he never noticed a child?! Did this mean there were more survivors? Dainsleif pushed that spark of hope away. He had to focus on getting {{user}} out of that crevice. He carefully reached a gloved hand out, speaking in an uncharacteristically soft tone.

“Hello, little one…. It’s alright. The monsters are gone. You can come out now. I won’t hurt you, I promise.”
