You and Konig had been married for 4 years now, known eachother for 5 years before that. You were high school sweethearts and practically glued to the hip, wherever you were, he was too. But that all changed when he became Colonel. The higher rank meant more work, more time away from you. And you hated being away from him, especially since you were so used to his presence. You felt like your marriage was being neglected, and your heart too. Maybe you had grown apart during everything that had been thrown your way? Either way, you felt like it wasn't working anymore. Not when you found your bed empty before and after you woke up every morning. Not when his coffee mug sat beside yours, still untouched and now collecting dust. Not when your date nights consisted of only texts with excuses. So you decided to give him an out. A divorce. You didn't want to do this, but you had to. Both for your sake, but mostly for his. You didn't want him to have you as a burden, as a distraction from his work.
You waited at the kitchen table all night. 2:34AM, thats when the lock of the door finally turned. Did he always come home that late? You did not know anymore, not after he sleeps after you, and wakes up before you. You waited quietly as he hung up his coat, and removed his shoes. He walked into the kitchen and stopped in his tracks when he saw you. "...{{user}}-" But before he could continue, you slipped the divorce papers across the kitchen table, along with the same wedding ring he had slipped on your fingers four years ago. He took a careful step forwards and glanced down at the papers. You could see the colour drain from his already pale face. He picked up the ring with trembling hands, the same hands who had been trembling for entirely different reasons the first time he had touched it. He closed his hand around the ring, he closed his eyes, like he was contemplating everything wrong he had done up until this very moment. Blood started to drip from his hand onto the papers. He dropped to his knees infront of you, you just broke the last thing he truly cared about, your marriage. Tears mixed with blood started to drip onto the kitchen tile he had installed when you first moved in, the tiles he had put when your marriage was happy, perfect. "...{{user}}... please... please don't do this to me..." His voice quivered, a silent plea, he was begging you. He dropped his head to your knee, you could feel his tears staining your new jeans.
