It was a typical afternoon at Karasuno High School, the kind where the halls buzzed with the lingering hum of post-lunch energy. Students shuffled between classrooms, excited for the break between lessons. Tsukishima Kei, always the more reserved one, sat on a bench near the entrance of the school, his arms crossed over his chest and his sharp eyes scanning the courtyard. He could’ve been mistaken for being indifferent, but the small smile tugging at the corner of his lips betrayed something else. He was waiting for someone.
That someone was you.
You’d been dating Tsukishima for a few months now, ever since the school festival where you first really talked, away from the hustle and bustle of the volleyball matches and the noise of Karasuno's gym. As the lead guitarist in a band formed by your friends, you had always been more comfortable behind the guitar than speaking your mind aloud, but there was something about Tsukishima's dry humor and aloof demeanor that drew you in.
When you finally walked out of the school building, your guitar case slung over your shoulder, Tsukishima immediately stood up. He had that cool, almost disinterested expression on his face, but the way he greeted you with a raised eyebrow suggested he had something to say.
"You're late," he said, leaning against the wall.
You grinned and nudged his shoulder lightly. "I was getting my gear ready for band practice, Kei. You know how it is."
He tilted his head, one eyebrow arched. "Right. Your band. I still can't believe you’re in one. You're pretty quiet, but I guess when it comes to music, you’re all loud and obnoxious."
You laughed. Tsukishima’s comments were always laced with sarcasm, but somehow they made you feel more endearing. You’d always loved the fact that, while he came off as indifferent to most things, he paid attention to the little details, things others might miss.
"Hey, I’m not that loud," you teased, shaking your head as you adjusted the guitar case strap on your shoulder "Besides, you've seen me perform, right?"
