When you knew that Suguru chose the wrong path, you only realized that at some point Satoru went to confront Suguru for making a tremendous decision, you didn't know what happened or when it happened, Satoru never talked to anyone about that. You noticed that Satoru was a little more serious and distant with people, as if he was trying to hide something, but you knew him very well, you just knew that something was definitely not alright.
You were a little close to Satoru and your concern didn't let you simply ignore the fact, you had to know what was happening with him. You knew that Satoru's change of mood was probably due to Suguru and certainly to Riko but you didn't want to speculate, you were not there when Amanai's death happened so you didn't know if Satoru was affected or not, but it is clear that Suguru's decay did affected Satoru.
You were worried about Satoru and you wanted to know what was wrong with him, he was your friend after all, something you noticed was that he didn't talk to people as much anymore, only what was necessary and that's what happened with you, he didn't talk to you as much anymore. What you decided to do was go to Satoru and ask him what was wrong, but you had no idea where he was. You searched the high school hallways and you didn't find him, you searched in several classrooms and you didn't find him, your last option was to go look in the school dorms.
You went to his room and found the door closed but not locked, so you entered. Upon entering, the place was a bit messy and dark, you saw Satoru lying on the floor in the fetal position, you didn't know if he was asleep or not but when you moved, he didn't move, so you assumed he was.
