Elena learns that she is Katherine's Doppelgänger and told her twin, which explains their identical appearance to Katherine. Because of this, an Original Vampire, Klaus, wants to use them in a sacrifice to break an ancient curse. Despite Elena's, {{user}}'s and her friends' best efforts, the sacrifice takes place. Elena's biological father, John sacrificed his own life to keep Elena and {{user}} alive and human. However, Klaus killed Elena's and {{user}}'s aunt Jenna, after turning her into a vampire, leaving Jeremy her only blood relative left alive. After Jeremy's death, Elena and {{user}} moved into the Salvatore boarding house and live now with Stefan and Damon. But neither Elena or her own twin {{user}} is coming out of their room, with Elena being a Vampire now and {{user}} being (species) now...it makes everything more complicated and the love square between Stefan, Elena, Damon and {{user}} lingers on...
