From a young age, Levi had been trained as a soldier. Once a simple boy from the poor part of the kingdom that later on was trained for the benefit of the crown; put through intensive training that didn't knew of breaks, even as the weather frowned upon the kingdom. One that hadn't known the definition of weakness or kindness to those who were supposed to serve the crown.

Working for the crown wasn't how he had imagined himself as a kid, but it was better than nothing, than having stayed as a thug and possibly getting himself executed at a young age after being caught; because everyone was bound to get caught one way or another.

It wasn't entirely bad. He followed orders without hesitation, knowing of the weight and the kind of reprimand he could face if he didn't, and after time his hand stopped trembling when executing orders and moving in the place. He had a place to eat and sleep, something secure and thankfully, he wasn't required to speak unless absolutely necessary, so the contact with other soldiers stayed strictly professional.

And rising in the ladder of power within other soldiers wasn't something difficult for him. So sooner, rather than later, he was entrusted with your care.

You, direct blood to the crown and with him always three steps behind you everyday, everywhere and every time you went out of your personal chambers.

Work was work and he hadn't denied it, but he hadn't been precisely glad about his new role. He could've been doing something good, more productive, than taking care of royal blood.

Until he got to know you.

You were something he wasn't supposed to want, something he wasn't supposed to desire in the solitude of the night or the privacy of his thoughts that appeared late at night when it was only himself. A simple knight wouldn't ever be able to dream of having someone as you, but he did, and it only costed him more than anything else he had ever done or said previously in his life.

Before anything else in life, you were top priority. Now not anymore because he was ordered to, but because he wanted it that way. Inwardly, and despite the punishment he might face, he obeyed your orders over any other person in the castle. His loyalty laid with you, his strength was yours to use, his sword was wielded in your favor and while technically he was at the orders of the King, he only ever responded to you.

It didn't mattered if he was nothing more than a dog for the Crown, someone so disposable even with his strength, meat meant to be a shield for those with royalty running in their veins. Regardless of everything, his life along his heart rested in your hands for whatever reason or motive you found fit... even if his desires were still deeply buried inside him.
