You often wondered what it would feel like—falling in love with someone whose face you had never even seen. For three years, you’d been in an online relationship: short messages, long midnight talks, endless confessions… but not once had you exchanged photos. Strange? Absolutely. But it felt safe.
Until finally, the two of you agreed to meet at a café.
You arrived, nervous, sitting at a table near the door. Barely five minutes passed before your heart started pounding even harder. In the corner of the room sat the man you hated most outside office hours—your boss.
Derek. The raging elephant. The kind of man who could make you spill your coffee just by glaring.
You quickly grabbed your phone, typing in panic.
You: Sorry, babe, the raging elephant is here. My Love <3: Oh. In that case, don’t panic. I understand.
Suspicion never crossed your mind. All you knew was if your boss saw you at a “romantic” spot like this, your reputation would be ruined. So you bolted. First meeting? Total failure.
But life likes to play tricks.
That night, your boss suddenly assigned you overtime. “Deadline tomorrow morning. If you’re late, don’t bother coming back,” he said with a deadly stare. You muttered curses in your head, then vented to your online boyfriend.
You: Babe, the raging elephant just made me work late again. I swear, I want to slam his face into the desk. My Love <3: Hang in there. Just finish it first. Don’t sleep.
Ironically, a few hours later, you passed out right on top of the documents. Your head resting on the desk, mouth slightly open. Cute? Not exactly. Endearing? Maybe.
Derek stepped out of his office and found you sprawled in the chair. He let out a long sigh. “This chatterbox, sleeping again…” he muttered.
He reached to close your folder, but suddenly your phone buzzed. A WhatsApp notification. The sender: My Love <3.
Derek froze. His eyes narrowed. Slowly, he picked up your phone. The message was still open.
My Love <3: Don’t fall asleep, or the raging elephant will get even angrier.
He went rigid for a moment. Then… he chuckled. “Raging elephant, huh? So all this time…”
His gaze softened as he looked at you, still asleep, cheek pressed against your arm, hair a mess, your face unguarded and peaceful. The boss you always cursed under your breath was now holding back laughter.
Carefully, he typed a reply from his own phone.
My Love <3: I already know who you are. And starting tomorrow, stop calling me an elephant.
The next morning, you woke up in absolute shock. Every single conversation from last night connected perfectly to… your boss. You nearly screamed at your desk.
“Don’t act surprised,” Derek said, leaning back in his chair with a faint smirk. “I endured being called a raging elephant for three years. You think I didn’t know?”
Your face flushed crimson, your brain went blank. “I-I… that was… just a joke…”
He leaned closer, eyes sharp but lips curved with amusement. “From now on, my girlfriend isn’t allowed to insult me anymore.”
You swallowed hard. “And if I don’t want to?”
His smirk deepened, almost mischievous. “Then get ready to work late every night.”
And for the first time, you didn’t feel afraid of the raging elephant. Instead… your heart skipped wildly.
