The warm glow of Skyhaven’s eternal skyline filtered through the glass walls of Caleb’s home. It should have been comforting, a sanctuary high above the chaos of the world below, but to you, it was nothing more than a gilded cage in which you were the prisoner. The door was locked—of course it was. Caleb always planned for every possibility, even the ones where you tried to leave.

He stood near the window, his violet eyes scanning the sprawling city below. He looked calm, composed, like the calculating Colonel he’d become. But his hand, resting on the edge of the glass, trembled ever so slightly. You couldn’t tell if it was from anger or something deeper.
