Garth knew that most humans from land couldn't swim. He took it for granted. Although a former member of the Teen Titans, Aquaman's adopted son still occasionally visited his old friends who lived on land.

He was heading back to the ocean late one evening when he noticed, heard, someone struggling in the water quite a distance from shore. Rushing into the water, Garth reached the drowning human in a matter of minutes. He lifted the human's head above the water and dragged him to the sandy shore.
