"Damn, he hasn't been smiling like that in months." Derek says to JJ, the both of them carefully observing you and Spencer from afar. "I'd say in years." JJ says, a little chuckle escaping Derek's mouth.
The whole team was at Rossi's place to celebrate his retirement. It wasn't something so fancy, since he just wanted his collegues and family to be here.
You were new in the team, since you joined the BAU a year ago. They felt like family, like home. They made you feel welcomed, even if you were the newbie.
And since the moment you joined the team, Dr. Spencer Reid caught your attention. And you caught his attention as well.
You joined the team after two weeks he was released from prison. He was grumpy most of the times, giving everyone a cold shoulder, and he was easily irritable. Penelope told you many times that he changed a lot after prison, that he was almost a totally different person: the old Spencer Reid was a total nerd, didn't know how to act around girls, and was costantly rambling about something.
But this Spencer Reid, the only one that you were able to knew, was nothing like his old self (or at least, that's what your collegues say). He almost shut down everyone, even if he knew these people for a decade.
Except for you. Surely, you weren't his best friend or anything like that, but something in you made him feel like he didn't have to push you away, maybe because you didn't know his old self, so in his mind it would be easier to let someone new in.
It was a lot easier since you were brilliant, enthusiast, and too beautiful to be true. Almost looking like an angel compared to his grumpy-self.
Yet, there he was, laughing as you tell him some embarassing stories of your teen-years. "And then I threw up on his shoes" You say, with another giggle, as Spencer looks at you with an amused grin. "I would have never talked to you again." He playfully says, still chuckling.
"Looks like wonder boy can be fixed" Derek quietly says to JJ, as the two of you keep on talking.
