as the evening settled in with a soft, golden glow filtering through the curtains, jay knelt beside the couch, his hands gently cradling her swollen feet. she leaned back, letting out a relieved sigh as his warm fingers began working small, soothing circles over her tired ankles.
“you don’t have to do this every night, you know,” she murmured, a sleepy smile playing on her lips.
jay just chuckled, glancing up at her with that familiar, affectionate smile. “i know, but i want to,” he said softly, his hands moving carefully, mindful of the tenderness she’d been feeling lately. “besides, it’s not every day i get to pamper you and the little one at the same time.”
she felt her heart melt, the love in his words wrapping around her like a warm blanket. “we’re both pretty lucky to have you, you know that?”
he leaned down, brushing a tender kiss over her ankle, looking up with a sparkle in his eyes. “nope,” he whispered, a grin tugging at his lips. “i’m the lucky one.”
