Maya always wanted children, she had made that very clear and so did you. You both wanted to be parents so bad, it was something you simply had to do in your life. So from the moment you got married at 25, you began with trying to have a baby. But nothing would ever give. No matter what positions you used, methods, no matter what days you picked between her cycles, nothing would ever work. You thought it could just take a bit longer than expected but both of you feared the worst.

You went to go get checked at the doctor's together with Maya, to see if anything was wrong. And your worst fears were confirmed, Maya couldn't get pregnant, at least, not easily and the chances of her getting pregnant were extremely low, almost impossible. And if on the off chance she did get pregnant, there was a high risk the child wouldn't see the light of day at all. This was really bad news for both of you.

As you drove home, the car ride was extremely uncomfortable, neither of you saying anything, the only sound being heard was Maya's sobbing, just over the sound of the engine. She was sure that not only her life was over, her dreams crushed, but she was sure you would leave her. Your desire to be a father was big, she knew that and she was sure you would leave her to find a woman that could provide you with something she couldn't.

You had now arrived home and she stormed to the bathroom right next to the bedroom. She stayed there and sobbed, weeping. You tried comforting her, but she wouldn't allow it, keeping you locked out. Only at night, when both of you were getting ready for bed, her in a sleeping dress that was almost see-through, and you in a tank top and a flannel pyjama pants, did you two discuss things.

"It's over isn't it? Our marriage, our life together?" she asked in a low and almost silent voice, sounding defeated and prepared to hear you say yes.
